SKU: F00132
$42.00
This combo pack includes a 225ml Wasp Lure pouch, x1 trap, x3 20g Wasp Bait tubes, x2 bait stations, and x6 bait wells.
This pack is recommended as the go-to starter for wasp control when the infestation level is low, e.g. activity of 2-5 wasps present at your property.
Larger numbers of wasps around do require our high-infestation bait and lure combo. However, if you do have low numbers of wasps around your property, this low-infestation pack will help you clear them. Hawkeye Wasp Lure attracts and traps foraging wasps while the Bait works by being eaten and taken back to the nest to eliminate others as well as the carrier wasp. Using both methods reduces the time taken to eliminate them all
Does not control Paper wasps.

Directions for use
Hawkeye Wasp Bait should be placed where wasps are foraging for food for best results. It shouldnât be placed anywhere there are strong odours that could mask the âsmellâ of the attractants in the bait, for example, do not place Hawkeye Wasp Bait near flower beds, especially if they have a strong fragrance. Ideally the placement will be in an open position out of all day sun, but the primary consideration is putting it where wasps are foraging.
Once you have the location for bait placement decided, assemble stations and put them in the predetermined positions. They can be attached using cable ties or a screw or tack into fences, posts, trees etc.
Put the required amount of bait in the bait well. Each well will be approximately half full with the required amount of bait (10g for home user wells and 20g for commercial user wells).
Place the well in the provided cavity in the station and close the station.
You should notice a reduction in wasp activity within a couple of weeks of placement, with elimination of the nest occurring in approximately 4 weeks.
If the bait changes appearance and looks white, âfluffyâ and no longer seems to be attracting wasps, this means the bait is spent â wasps have taken all the active ingredient and attractants out. The spent bait residue should be discarded and replaced with fresh bait.
Inspect your property and where you notice high wasp activity areas is where you will want to place and install the Wasp Lure traps. Hawkeye Wasp Lure should be placed in close proximity to where wasps are foraging for food, for best results.
The Wasp Lure shouldnât be placed anywhere there are strong odours that could mask the âsmellâ of the attractants in the Lure, for example, do not place Hawkeye Wasp Lure near flower beds, especially if they have a strong fragrance. Ideally the placement will be out in an open position out of all day sun, but the primary consideration is putting it where wasps are foraging.
Once you have the location for the Hawkeye wasp trap placement decided, put a nylon thread or a cable tie on the yellow lid of the Hawkeye Wasp trap and keep it aside. Now fill the Hawkeye wasp traps carefully with the Hawkeye Wasp Lure (one 225ml pouch per trap) and put the lid on making sure there are no spills on the sides. Wipe with a damp cloth if there is any spillage.
Carefully hang the trap(s) on the pre-selected locations at about 1.5 meters above ground on a tree/fencing wire and again be careful about any spillage, wipe out if necessary.
Wasp Lure spillage over the side of the trap can attract bees, as the volatile bee repellent components will evaporate quickly from the spilled material. We recommend if you notice any spillage during the duration of the
Refilling
The traps work by drowning the wasps and are most effective when there is enough Lure to drown them. Once the traps are full, empty the whole content and refill them with fresh Hawkeye Wasp Lure carefully. DO NOT top them up with water.
You should notice a reduction in wasp activity with a week of Hawkeye Wasp Lure placement.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING HAWKEYE WASP TRAPS IN AN APIARY
Hang the traps at least at >25 meters distance from the hives.
If you are planning to keep using the Hawkeye Wasp Lure during winter, please make sure your hives are well fed and they arenât starving/hungry and looking for any sort of food. At this time of the year (winter) when there is not much food (flowers) around for them, chances are that bees can detect the sugar in the traps once the Lure odours are gone (after about 7-10 days) and can get into the traps. Change the lure 7-10 days during winter to avoid any chance of bees going near the Wasp Lure and getting trapped.
If you spot more than a couple of bees in a trap, the following steps should be observed:
- Wash Hawkeye Wasp Lure trap with warm water to remove old lure, dead wasps, bees, and any pheromone that may have been deposited by the bees.
- Replace with fresh Hawkeye Wasp Lure.
- Place the trap in a different location so that the bees canât find it again.
SOME THINGS NOT TO DO:
DO NOT put the traps anywhere near strong fragrant flowering plants or shrubs.
DO NOT top up the traps with water as that can attract bees (they can detect minute quantities of sugar present in the remaining Lure). Fresh Lure contains bee repellents, therefore the bees will stay away. Always refill them with fresh Hawkeye Wasp Lure.
DO NOT kill the live wasps by spraying fly spray into the dome trap. This will repel further wasps from entering the dome as fly sprays are mostly repellent by nature.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Wasp Bait eliminate an entire nest?
Yes, Hawkeye Wasp Bait has been designed to eliminate entire nests and colonies, provided that, you use enough bait for the size of the nest(s). Due to the nature of the slow acting active ingredient, you do have to be patient for the wasp bait to work, as it requires enough workers feeding on the bait and returning to the nest, along with recruiting others to come and feed on the bait. You should notice a reduction in wasp activity within a couple of weeks and elimination of the nest happening in approximately 4 weeks.
How does Hawkeye Wasp Bait differ to other Bait products in the market?
Hawkeye Wasp Bait is a protein and carbohydrate bait and the benefit of this is that it can be used all year round. It can be stored at ambient temperature and lasts for 2 years. Other similar products on the market tend to be only protein, therefore only having a short timeframe in the wasp life cycle where they require only protein for the nest. Hawkeye Wasp Bait will last out in the stations for 2-3 weeks, you will need to keep an eye on the bait if infestation levels are really high, it may need switching out sooner.
What is the active ingredient and how does it work?
Hawkeye Wasp Bait contains 0.4% indoxacarb. Indoxacarb has a low mammalian toxicity and is one of the safer insecticide active ingredients to be used around people and pets. The product itself is no more toxic than table salt (though it should never be consumed, and we do suggest to keep it out of the way of pets)
Are honeybees attracted to Hawkeye Wasp Bait?
No. We have done extensive studies and trials around New Zealand with beekeepers to show that bees have no attraction to our Hawkeye Wasp Bait formulation. It has been scientifically designed to have a deterrence for bees. Beekeeper testimonials and trial data is available upon request.
What is the difference between Hawkeye Wasp Bait and Wasp Lure?
Hawkeye Wasp Bait is formulated to wipe out nests of Common and German Wasp species. It contains a slow acting active ingredient, the wasps feed on the bait and transport it back to the nest. Wasp Lure is a non poisonous attractant that lures the wasps into the trap and works by attract and trap mechanism that once the wasps fly in, the cannot escape therefor drowning in the lure solution. This product is good for use in low infestation situations, or to work as a dual product with wasp bait to decrease the bio mass of the nest and therefore less bait will be needed during treatment to wipe a nest out.
When should I start using Hawkeye Wasp Bait?
We recommend using Hawkeye Wasp Bait once you are experiencing high wasp pressure (20+ wasps in a vicinity at any one time. In lower pressure situations, take a look at our Wasp Lure product.
Where should I place Hawkeye Wasp Bait on my property?
Placement of wasp bait depends on where the wasps are foraging and the surrounding environment. Getting optimal placement of the bait and stations can take some time to figure out. If you are struggling to get wasps feeding on the bait, contact us for further advice.
I know where the wasp nest is. Should I use Hawkeye Wasp Bait to eliminate it?
While you can use Hawkeye Wasp Bait, if you know where the nest is located and it is a hazard to yourself or family, we recommend calling a professional Pest Controller who can get rid of the nest straight away.
Will Hawkeye Wasp Lure attract bees?
Hawkeye Wasp Lure contains bee deterrent so bees will not go near the trap, unless they are hungry and there is no natural food around. The only situations where bees have been found in the traps are:
Lure spillage on the sides
Hungry and weak colonies during winter
Placement of traps near strong fragrant plants, masking and blending the nee deterrents where bees are most active
Topping up the traps with water and diluting the lure and lure volatiles.
The Wasp Lure is highly volatile and evaporates quickly once outside the trap, so any spillage on the outside can attract bees once all volatiles are gone, because the remaining liquid will be mainly sugar. Make sure there is no spillage and wipe it out with a damp cloth if there is any.
During dearth periods bees can attempt to check the traps so make sure you change the lure more frequently, especially during wintertime. This will ensure you have adequate bee deterrents.
Which species of wasps are attracted to Hawkeye Wasp Lure?
Common and German wasps.
Does Hawkeye Wasp Lure attract paper wasps?
No, it is not particularly attractive to paper wasps because they have different behaviours and colony needs.
What active ingredient does it contain? How does the Hawkeye Lure work?
Hawkeye Wasp Lure doesnât contain any active ingredients. It is non-poisonous and works via attract and trap mechanism. The wasps are attracted to the volatiles in the lure, enters the trap, gets stuck inside the trap and cannot get out, therefore dying of exhaustion and drowning.
I only have a couple of wasps flying here and there on my property, would it catch them too?
Yes, if there are any nuisance Common and German wasps around on your property, but you have to find a suitable sunny location away from any strong fragrant plants to install the trap.
What should I do if there are still wasps around and not that many in the trap?
Change the location of the trap to another area where wasps are most active or hanging out. They may be looking for some protein so check out Hawkeye Wasp Bait product and install a bait station near to the areas where they are hanging out. Hawkeye Wasp Bait is taken back to the nest to feed the queen, and juveniles and will eliminate the whole nest.
What is the best time to install the Hawkeye Wasp Lure traps to make sure the population of wasps is under control on my property before reaching to high levels?
Springtime is the best to fill and put the Hawkeye Wasp traps out in sunny areas (or the areas you know are more prone to wasp activity based on previous wasp activity) to target the emerging queens from hibernation and the new batches of wasps from the colonies. A lot of queens have been found in the traps from September onwards in Auckland region and warmer parts of the country. One queen trapped is a nest gone. So, we do recommend going for it, and installing a trap at the start of the season to target most queens or the early population.
How many Hawkeye Wasp Lure Traps will I need to install?
We can help you decide on that if you are unsure of how many Hawkeye Wasp Lure traps you need for your unique situations. To start with, you can get our Wasp Lure Starter Pack (link this in) and see how you go with using one single trap. If you have a big property (>500m2) and still have wasps in some other areas of your property, we recommend setting up a couple more traps. For 1000m2 size property and medium infestation levels we recommend 2 traps minimum, and if the pressure is high install a minimum of 4 traps in different areas. If you are still unsure, please get in touch.
What should I do If wasp pressure is suddenly high?
If the population suddenly reaches to a very high level, you need to tackle them with a dual direct and indirect kill mechanism for faster and more effective control. Install Hawkeye Wasp Bait station and dill them with Hawkeye Wasp Bait and install Hawkeye Wasp Lure traps in suitable areas as per the direction under these conditions.
How it works- Wasp Bait will be taken back to the nest by foragers looking for protein for the colony and most and the active hungry foragers looking for sugars, will be trapped in the traps of Hawkeye Wasp Lure. This will knock the population down quickly, even though the
Technical Information
WASP BAIT:
Hawkeye Wasp Bait is a scientifically developed bait consisting of protein, sugar and highly attractive food-grade volatiles that draws wasps to the bait stations. The wasps feed on the sugar content of the bait and take the protein and active back to the nest to feed the young ones, resulting in wiping out the whole nest.
Hawkeye Wasp Bait is made up of wasp attractants, wasp foods and insecticide active ingredient to provide a highly palatable matrix to wasps that is taken back to the nest and eliminate it.
It has been deliberately formulated with an active ingredient that is slow acting so that it will be taken back to the nest and distributed around all the wasps instead of killing the wasp transporting it. Because of this, it takes time to work and does not give an instant kill of foraging wasps.
Foraging wasps have been given information from scout foragers on the location of good food for the nest. It is vital for the performance of the wasp bait that it is placed out where wasps are foraging, otherwise uptake will be poor. It shouldnât simply be placed in the wasp flight path, or put out when wasps are not actively foraging, eg during times of stress or drought when nest growth slows.
Hawkeye wasp bait can be stored for up to 2 years under ambient conditions in the provided packaging. Refrigeration is not necessary.
Hawkeye wasp bait has been formulated to be attractive all year round. It can be used at any time of the year without the need for prebaiting.
Wasp Lure:
The Wasp Lure traps work via attract and trap mechanism, where the active wasp foragers are attracted and drawn to the lure volatiles, once they are inside the trap they cant find their way out, therefore they will drown in the Lure. Empty the whole contents and re-fill the traps once they are full with wasps or there is no more free liquid left.
There may be some live active wasps inside the trap at the refilling time and it is okay to let them escape during refilling as they will fly back to their nest and recruit more wasps back to the trap.
