The Hawkeye Wasp Bait & Lure is our most popular product with the best results

Hawkeye Wasp Bait is a liquid bait that wipes out entire wasp populations in 3-4 weeks.

We recommend this as a starter for wasp control when the infestation level is already starting to rise. Wasp lure helps to reduce the biomass of the wasp nest, which effectively reduces the time it takes to wipe out the nest using wasp bait.
You may need to do multiple treatments if you are dealing with multiple or larger nests.

Controls German and Common wasps. Does not control Paper wasps.

Pack includes:

  • 2 225mL Wasp Lure pouches
  • 2 traps
  • 1 500mL Wasp Bait
  • 4 commercial stations
  • 15 bait wells

Reviews

Great product, does what it is marketed to do. The wasp lure was working successfully within 12 hours of placing in my apiary. Can't get, or ask for, better than that! But apart from a successful product, the company's customer service is outstanding. Ordered product one day, arrived by courier the next. Not many suppliers can match service like that these days. Well done you guys…
I will be using for additional stations.
Hello there
A very straight forward transaction for me - prompt delivery and all goods arrived safely. I'd certainly recommend your services.
Thank you
Lorraine
Arrived quickly thank goodness! We live next to a DOC reserve and there must be multiple nests as my hives were getting hammered. The bait is been taken happily back to their hives quickly (bees not interested in it) and the lure is getting very full quickly and the hives are much happier. Hopefully another week and we will see a massive reduction in the little bas...ds! Easy to set up once got the hang of the bait stations. A syringe works great for refilling the bait stations once they are in place so you don't have to handle them.
Excellent products, Wasps have been hitting them all non stop since we got them out and that is with our large orchards of Apples and Pears in full production.
Highly recommend to anyone.
The bait stations are easy to install
Good product - seems very specific to wasps without any by-catch of bees or other flying insects.
The wasps seem to love the bait and the lure. The number that has turned up to the bait stations is hard to believe.
Thank you ; sadly by the time I actually received the product, the wasps have gone into hibernation for the winter, however I will be ready for the in the spring time
Have only had the product out for a week and the wasps have nearly taken all the bait in four stations. They certainly like it! Easy to use and quick to set up. I hope they're enjoying the feed after nuking four of my bee hives!!
Fantastic products that really work
Wasp lure trapped only wasps and no bees from my hives in the lure containers. And lots of wasps

The bait stations attracted only wasps and there has been a noticeable reduction in wasp numbers in our orchard and around the bee hives
It took a day or so but the wasps are now flocking to the bait and the the lure. Hopefully this will be the end of them robbing my bees. Last year I lost 2 hives due to robbing. I wait with great anticipation for the rest of the stations to arrive.
This product has done what it said it would. The lure and traps are effective and the bait is easy to set up. The wasps are super attracted to this mix. While we haven't completely eradicated the wasps around us, we must be making a decent dent in their numbers! Would highly recommend this product.
Wow what a product! Firstly it arrived so fast which was appreciated as we were being terrorised by wasps.
I hung one lure / trap out and put 3 of the 4 bait stations out and the wasps have gone bonkers for it, they are swarming all over the lure and I can see a steady stream of them accessing the bait. Interestingly since we put it out way less of them coming inside too.
I've been posting my journey to be free of wasps on Facebook and many have asked what I'm using so have shared this excellent product. Highly recommended and we have just purchased more.
I had wasp starting to take over my bee hives .So get the bait and lure comb . I blown. awit way how great it worked . Yes I will be using next year
Very print service. Items arrived following day. Excellent thank you
So far so good. I've seen a noticable drop in wasp activity. Wasps still seem hungry for the bait with a few weeks already in. Definitely an improvement from the previous bait which was in a sort of gel/curd.

I would like to add that as a Vespex authorized user I did a trial by putting out the two baits side by side at when I suspected the wasps would be on protein (for an equal comparison) and the wasps took to the hawkeye bait over Vespex just about everytime so this will become my go to wasp bait! Vespex dries out way to quick to be usable in my opinion where this bait stays fairly fresh for a few weeks at the least. No complaints so far.
Finally found a product that works! Serious wasp problem developed over a week from a just a rogue few to a few hundred in a week- swarming the strawberry bed and veggie garden morning to night. I tried 2 weeks of lure and traps (yellow bell ones from farmlands and bunnings) with no progress and the wasps worked out how to get out and consumed all the lure.
As I was hanging the trap the first wasp landed and went in and the trap now has a few hundred in reducing the overall number. I have hung 2 bait traps which have been emptied twice in a week to start killing the hives (suspect there are multiple in the inaccessible bush) at source. Advised it will take a few weeks to make a big difference but so far very happy!
Very impressive the Bait, Only third filled the wells with bait just to see what was around as Wasp numbers didn't appear high. We Baited nine stations and within 48hrs all Bait was gone and wells had numerous dead wasps in them. Rebaited half of them last night before the rain came back. Put a small twig in the wells to allow the Wasps to climb back out when they fall in. Checked stations this morning and Wasps all around them like a rash. Looks like I will be buying some more Bait soon the way they are drinking it.
Highly recommend this product, both the bait and lure, we have a very high infestation of wasps and after only a day had heaps of wasps taking the bait and getting stuck into the lure. Very easy to install bait stations and set up lure traps.

Directions for use

Hawkeye Wasp Bait DIRECTIONS:

1. Placement: Identify areas where wasps forage, avoiding locations with strong odors like flower beds. Choose open areas, preferably out of direct sunlight, for bait placement.

2. Station Assembly: Assemble bait stations by attaching them securely using cable ties or screws to fences, posts, or trees. Ensure stations are stable and accessible.

3. Bait Application: Fill the bait well halfway with the required amount of bait. Use 10g of bait for home use and 20g for commercial applications. Ensure precise measurement to avoid over- or under-baiting.

4. Station Closure: Place the filled bait well into the cavity of the station and close it securely. Check for any gaps or openings to prevent spillage or tampering.

5. Effectiveness Monitoring: Monitor bait stations regularly for reduced wasp activity. You should notice a decrease in activity within a couple of weeks, with complete nest elimination expected in about 4 weeks.

6. Bait Replacement: If the bait changes appearance to white and fluffy, indicating it is spent, replace it with fresh bait. Discard the spent bait properly to prevent accidental exposure.

Hawkeye Wasp Lure DIRECTIONS:

1. Placement: Identify areas with high wasp activity, such as near nests or foraging sites. Avoid locations with strong odors, as this could mask the lure's attractants. Choose open areas away from direct sunlight.

2. Preparation: Prepare the trap by attaching a nylon thread or cable tie to the yellow lid. This will be used to hang the trap securely.

3. Lure Application: Fill each trap with one 225ml pouch of Hawkeye Wasp Lure. Carefully pour the lure into the trap, ensuring no spills or leaks. Wipe any spills with a damp cloth to maintain trap effectiveness.

4. Hanging: Hang the filled traps approximately 1.5 meters above the ground on trees or fencing wire. Ensure the traps are securely attached to prevent accidental spills or displacement.

5. Monitoring and Maintenance: Regularly check the traps for trapped wasps and refill them with fresh lures as needed. Clean any spills or debris to maintain trap effectiveness.

By following these detailed instructions, you can effectively control wasps around your property using Hawkeye Wasp Bait and Lure.

Refilling

The traps work by drowning the wasps and are most effective when there is enough Lure to drown them. Once the traps are full, empty the whole content and refill them with fresh Hawkeye Wasp Lure carefully. DO NOT top them up with water.
You should notice a reduction in wasp activity with a week of Hawkeye Wasp Lure placement.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING HAWKEYE WASP TRAPS IN AN APIARY

Hang the traps at least at >25 meters distance from the hives.

If you are planning to keep using the Hawkeye Wasp Lure during winter, please make sure your hives are well-fed and they aren’t starving/hungry and looking for any sort of food. At this time of the year (winter) when there is not much food (flowers) around for them, chances are that bees can detect the sugar in the traps once the Lure odors are gone (after about 7-10 days) and can get into the traps. Change the lure 7-10 days during winter to avoid any chance of bees going near the Wasp Lure and getting trapped.

If you spot more than a couple of bees in a trap, the following steps should be observed:

  1. Wash the Hawkeye Wasp Lure trap with warm water to remove old lures, dead wasps, bees, and any pheromones that may have been deposited by the bees.
  2. Replace with fresh Hawkeye Wasp Lure.
  3. Place the trap in a different location so that the bees can’t find it again.

SOME THINGS NOT TO DO:

DO NOT put the traps anywhere near strong fragrant flowering plants or shrubs.

DO NOT top up the traps with water as that can attract bees (they can detect minute quantities of sugar present in the remaining Lure). Fresh Lure contains bee repellents, therefore the bees will stay away. Always refill them with fresh Hawkeye Wasp Lure.

DO NOT kill the live wasps by spraying fly spray into the dome trap. This will repel further wasps from entering the dome as fly sprays are mostly repellent by nature.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Wasp Bait eliminate an entire nest?

Yes, Hawkeye Wasp Bait has been designed to eliminate entire nests and colonies, provided that, you use enough bait for the size of the nest(s). Due to the nature of the slow acting active ingredient, you do have to be patient for the wasp bait to work, as it requires enough workers feeding on the bait and returning to the nest, along with recruiting others to come and feed on the bait. You should notice a reduction in wasp activity within a couple of weeks and elimination of the nest happening in approximately 4 weeks.

How does Hawkeye Wasp Bait differ to other Bait products in the market?

Hawkeye Wasp Bait is a protein and carbohydrate bait and the benefit of this is that it can be used all year round. It can be stored at ambient temperature and lasts for 2 years. Other similar products on the market tend to be only protein, therefore only having a short timeframe in the wasp life cycle where they require only protein for the nest. Hawkeye Wasp Bait will last out in the stations for 2-3 weeks, you will need to keep an eye on the bait if infestation levels are really high, it may need switching out sooner.

What is the active ingredient and how does it work?

Hawkeye Wasp Bait contains 0.4% indoxacarb. Indoxacarb has a low mammalian toxicity and is one of the safer insecticide active ingredients to be used around people and pets. The product itself is no more toxic than table salt (though it should never be consumed, and we do suggest to keep it out of the way of pets)

Are honeybees attracted to Hawkeye Wasp Bait?

No. We have done extensive studies and trials around New Zealand with beekeepers to show that bees have no attraction to our Hawkeye Wasp Bait formulation. It has been scientifically designed to have a deterrence for bees. Beekeeper testimonials and trial data is available upon request.

What is the difference between Hawkeye Wasp Bait and Wasp Lure?

Hawkeye Wasp Bait is formulated to wipe out nests of Common and German Wasp species. It contains a slow acting active ingredient, the wasps feed on the bait and transport it back to the nest. Wasp Lure is a non poisonous attractant that lures the wasps into the trap and works by attract and trap mechanism that once the wasps fly in, the cannot escape therefor drowning in the lure solution. This product is good for use in low infestation situations, or to work as a dual product with wasp bait to decrease the bio mass of the nest and therefore less bait will be needed during treatment to wipe a nest out.

When should I start using Hawkeye Wasp Bait?

We recommend using Hawkeye Wasp Bait once you are experiencing high wasp pressure (20+ wasps in a vicinity at any one time. In lower pressure situations, take a look at our Wasp Lure product.

Where should I place Hawkeye Wasp Bait on my property?

Placement of wasp bait depends on where the wasps are foraging and the surrounding environment. Getting optimal placement of the bait and stations can take some time to figure out. If you are struggling to get wasps feeding on the bait, contact us for further advice.

I know where the wasp nest is. Should I use Hawkeye Wasp Bait to eliminate it?

While you can use Hawkeye Wasp Bait, if you know where the nest is located and it is a hazard to yourself or family, we recommend calling a professional Pest Controller who can get rid of the nest straight away.

Which species of wasps are attracted to Hawkeye Wasp Lure?

Common and German wasps.

Does Hawkeye Wasp Lure attract paper wasps?

No, it is not particularly attractive to paper wasps because they have different behaviours and colony needs.

What active ingredient does it contain? How does the Hawkeye Lure work?

Hawkeye Wasp Lure doesn’t contain any active ingredients. It is non-poisonous and works via attract and trap mechanism. The wasps are attracted to the volatiles in the lure, enters the trap, gets stuck inside the trap and cannot get out, therefore dying of exhaustion and drowning.

I only have a couple of wasps flying here and there on my property, would it catch them too?

Yes, if there are any nuisance Common and German wasps around on your property, but you have to find a suitable sunny location away from any strong fragrant plants to install the trap.

What should I do if there are still wasps around and not that many in the trap?

Change the location of the trap to another area where wasps are most active or hanging out. They may be looking for some protein so check out Hawkeye Wasp Bait product and install a bait station near to the areas where they are hanging out. Hawkeye Wasp Bait is taken back to the nest to feed the queen, and juveniles and will eliminate the whole nest.

What is the best time to install the Hawkeye Wasp Lure traps to make sure the population of wasps is under control on my property before reaching to high levels?

Springtime is the best to fill and put the Hawkeye Wasp traps out in sunny areas (or the areas you know are more prone to wasp activity based on previous wasp activity) to target the emerging queens from hibernation and the new batches of wasps from the colonies. A lot of queens have been found in the traps from September onwards in Auckland region and warmer parts of the country. One queen trapped is a nest gone. So, we do recommend going for it, and installing a trap at the start of the season to target most queens or the early population.

How many Hawkeye Wasp Lure Traps will I need to install?

We can help you decide on that if you are unsure of how many Hawkeye Wasp Lure traps you need for your unique situations. To start with, you can get our Wasp Lure Starter Pack (link this in) and see how you go with using one single trap. If you have a big property (>500m2) and still have wasps in some other areas of your property, we recommend setting up a couple more traps. For 1000m2 size property and medium infestation levels we recommend 2 traps minimum, and if the pressure is high install a minimum of 4 traps in different areas. If you are still unsure, please get in touch.

What should I do If wasp pressure is suddenly high?

If the population suddenly reaches to a very high level, you need to tackle them with a dual direct and indirect kill mechanism for faster and more effective control. Install Hawkeye Wasp Bait station and dill them with Hawkeye Wasp Bait and install Hawkeye Wasp Lure traps in suitable areas as per the direction under these conditions.

How it works- Wasp Bait will be taken back to the nest by foragers looking for protein for the colony and most and the active hungry foragers looking for sugars, will be trapped in the traps of Hawkeye Wasp Lure. This will knock the population down quickly, even though the

Will Hawkeye Wasp Lure attract bees?

Hawkeye Wasp Lure contains bee deterrent so bees will not go near the trap, unless they are hungry and there is no natural food around. The only situations where bees have been found in the traps are:

Lure spillage on the sides

Hungry and weak colonies during winter

Placement of traps near strong fragrant plants, masking and blending the nee deterrents where bees are most active

Topping up the traps with water and diluting the lure and lure volatiles.

The Wasp Lure is highly volatile and evaporates quickly once outside the trap, so any spillage on the outside can attract bees once all volatiles are gone, because the remaining liquid will be mainly sugar. Make sure there is no spillage and wipe it out with a damp cloth if there is any.

During dearth periods bees can attempt to check the traps so make sure you change the lure more frequently, especially during wintertime. This will ensure you have adequate bee deterrents.

Technical Information

WASP BAIT

Hawkeye Wasp Bait is a scientifically developed bait consisting of protein,  sugar, and highly attractive food-grade volatiles that draws wasps to the bait stations. The wasps feed on the sugar content of the bait and take the protein and activity back to the nest to feed the young ones, resulting in wiping out the whole nest.

Hawkeye Wasp Bait is made up of wasp attractants, wasp foods, and insecticide active ingredients to provide a highly palatable matrix to wasps that is taken back to the nest and eliminated.

It has been deliberately formulated with an active ingredient that is slow-acting so that it will be taken back to the nest and distributed around all the wasps instead of killing the wasp transporting it. Because of this, it takes time to work and does not give an instant kill of foraging wasps.

Foraging wasps have been given information from scout foragers on the location of good food for the nest. It is vital for the performance of the wasp bait that it is placed out where wasps are foraging, otherwise uptake will be poor. It shouldn’t simply be placed in the wasp flight path, or put out when wasps are not actively foraging, eg during times of stress or drought when nest growth slows.

Hawkeye wasp bait can be stored for up to 2 years under ambient conditions in the provided packaging. Refrigeration is not necessary.

Hawkeye wasp bait has been formulated to be attractive all year round. It can be used at any time of the year without the need for prebaiting.

Wasp Lure

The Wasp Lure traps work via the attract and trap mechanism, where the active wasp foragers are attracted and drawn to the lure volatiles, once they are inside the trap they can't find their way out, therefore they will drown in the Lure. Empty the whole contents and re-fill the traps once they are full with wasps or there is no more free liquid left.

There may be some live active wasps inside the trap at the refilling time and it is okay to let them escape during refilling as they will fly back to their nest and recruit more wasps back to the trap.
